Welcome

This is the chronicle of our journey through the 21st century and our exploration and implementation of a greener lifestyle for our family. We are a family of four humans in suburban St Louis, Missouri, USA. We have always been Earth-conscious but have become even more aware recently of all of the things we can be doing to not only leave a smaller carbon footprint behind but to also increase our sustainable use of our land and resources to work and live in harmony with the earth and so have decided to embark on this journey to change our lives in many of those ways.

Japanese Climbing Cucumbers!!!!

As you can see, spring has sprung around these parts!  Everything we planted is blooming or sprouting or growing and some things we weren't even expecting(japanese climbing cucumbers!!!!) .  The plants are all looking wonderful and I can't help but think that a mild winter actually helped us out quite a bit!

Tomorrow we will actually do our first spring plantings outside and a new year of gardening begins.

We hope you join us as we explore our edible lawn!

PS...did ya see how the winter grains have grown?!?!?!  Looking good!!! :)

Wow...it has been along time since I updated....I guess school happened!

We finished off the growing season just last week with our first freeze and up until then we had tomatoes and tomatillas still sprouting!  That's what happens around these parts when you plant late...you keep getting crops!

In the meantime we have composted all of the vegetation and replanted for winter/spring crops that will help replenish the things that were depleted over the summer.  we also planted a ton of bulbs around the front yard, I kinda went a bit crazy!  And then....I decided we needed fruit too.

Lots of fruit....sooooo...we now have two apple trees, two grape vines, two blackberry bushes, three strawberry bushes, four raspberry bushes and six blueberry bushes...plus the mulberry bushes that are scattered all over the yard......:D:D:D

We've sprouted!!!!

It is official...we have sprouts!!!!  The back beds are green as can be and I think I saw the starting of lettuce and spinach even!!!  It is wonderful and lush, obviously you can see the green!!!!  Only one teeny tiny minor drawback..it is also 13 year cicada cycle....makes your ears almost bleed withe the din outside.....sigh....luckily they do not eat little sprouts! YAY!
